U.S. Veteran

David T. Russell, age 74, of Celina, died at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima on Sunday, March 25, 2012.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island on April 25, 1937, the son of the late Wilbur and Olive (Allen) Russell.

Dave married Wava Lantz on November 14, 1959 and she survives in Celina, along with three children: Michael David (Beth) Russell, Roberta "Bobbie" (Rick) Turner and Ronda (Ron) Helmer, all of Celina, eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, as well as a sister: Nancy (Paul) Beck of Harrisburg, PA.

He was a member of the Montezuma Church of Christ and Coldwater American Legion Post #470 and a former Boy Scout Leader and Assistant Scoutmaster. Dave was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.

Dave was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, having served in post-war Korea from 1954 to 1958. He had served as a police officer in Hicksville for several years before moving to Celina. Dave retired from the former Huffy Bicycle Plant in Celina, where he had worked as a welder and supervisor.

Friends may call from 10 A.M. until 12 Noon Thursday, March 29 at the funeral home, with Graveside Services starting at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday at North Grove Cemetery in Celina, with Pastor Randy Christian officiating. Military Rites will be performed by the Coldwater Legion.

Memorials in memory of Dave may be made to the C.A.L.L. Food Pantry, 420 N. Brandon Ave., Celina, where he had been a volunteer.
